This unit describes a participant s skills and knowledge required to control traffic with stop-slow bat in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.

Note: The terms Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Work Health and Safety (WHS) are equivalent and generally either can be used in the workplace. In jurisdictions where the National Model WHS Legislation has not been implemented RTOs are advised to contextualise the unit of competency by referring to the existing State/Territory OHS legislative requirements.
On completion of the course, participants will have gained the following skills and knowledge to:
Plan and prepare
Access, interpret and apply site traffic plan procedures and ensure the work activity is compliant
Obtain, confirm, clarify and apply work instructions
Obtain, confirm, clarify and apply safety requirements
Position or confirm traffic signs and barriers
Direct traffic correctly
Use hand held stop/slow bats
Select tools and equipment, check for serviceability and rectify or report any faults
Position or confirm temporary traffic signs and barriers
Monitor traffic, make adjustments for changing conditions and position waiting vehicles for smooth traffic flow
Use visibly clear and unobstructed hand signals
Operate communication devices
Adjust communication device controls for optimum reception/transmission results
Transmit messages clearly and concisely
Check communications contact after nominated period of non-contact
Remove or cover signs and devices sequentially to provide warning to motorists during shutdown
RIIWHS205D –is required by the traffic controller for licensing.
Cancellations within 48 hours may incur a 20% cancellation fee, no refund is given for non-attendance or cancellation on the day of the training. Where ECB Training Services receives sufficient notice of cancellation (at least 48 hours), a refund is available.
